Opening September 8th, our first solo exhibition with Samantha Torrisi
There is a certain hour on the slopes of Etna when the mist comes down through the pines and the whole mountain seems to hold its breath. The trees soften, the light turns to vapor, and for a little while the world looks the way it does in memory.
Samantha Torrisi has spent years painting that hour.
We are pleased to open The Poetry of Stillness, our first solo exhibition with Samantha, gathering fifteen paintings made between 2018 and today. Samantha lives and works on the slopes of Mount Etna, and the volcano’s moods run through everything she makes. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, she is an atmospheric and contemplative painter whose work moves in the space between landscape, memory, and human presence, creating dreamlike scenes.
In Nuvole di passaggio, one of her newest canvases, a golden meadow opens beneath a sky heavy with clouds. In Where no one knows, a wood sinks into deep blue night while a pale, unexplained light glows at its center, somewhere between a refuge and a dream.
Her work has traveled well beyond Sicily. Her paintings have appeared in the pages of Artribune and her canvases are held in public and private collections.
Summer is loosening its grip here in Sambuca di Sicilia. The gallery has reopened after the August pause, the light is turning gold in the late afternoons, and it feels like the right season for paintings that ask nothing of you except a few quiet minutes of looking.
