Artist Simone Geraci’s prints presented in Foundation draw from key moments across nearly a decade of his printmaking practice. Working across etching, aquatint, drypoint, and multi-plate printing on zinc, he builds his images through patient layering of line and tone. The crosshatched surfaces of his portraits are not backgrounds or textures in the conventional sense. They are the image. The face emerges from the density of marks, figure and ground are made of the same gesture.
Die Träumerin, German for "The Dreamer” is a series, appearing across different years and techniques, each time withdrawn into an interior world. Her face is downturned, her eyes nearly closed. She is somewhere else, held in a state of quiet, inward suspension.

Echos (2019, etching on zinc, 30 × 20 cm, edition of 10) places a face inside a luminous white circle set against a dense blue-black field. The composition reads simultaneously as a portal, and a mirror. The face tilts downward, eyes lowered, framed and isolated.

Oltre (2025, two-plate etching, 20 × 15 cm) is the newest work in the collection. A figure fills the frame, the head tilted and turned, the body folding inward. The crosshatched surface gives the skin a quality that is neither warm nor cold but simply present, like something remembered rather than observed. Two plates were used to build this image, their layers combining into a single surface of compressed shadow and pale light. The title means “beyond” in Italian.

In the United States, the limited edition print has a long and serious collecting tradition. Institutions like MoMA and the Whitney have built deep print collections, and American collectors have long understood that a work on paper, intimate in scale and limited in edition, can carry as much weight as any painting. Prints are the democratic wing of serious collecting — the way to live closely with significant art. Geraci's Foundation is precisely this kind of opportunity, now accessible to American collectors for the first time through Artsy.
Foundation is a return to origins, to the structural and emotional core of a practice.
We are glad to be bringing them to an international audience through Artsy. Come and take a closer look…
