In Oltre e. I (“Beyond”), Simone Geraci presents a face that appears partially obscured, as if emerging from behind a vertical threshold. The composition is divided by a dark band that interrupts the image, while the figure’s gaze seems directed toward something unseen.

The portrait is built through a dense accumulation of engraved lines, forming a textured surface that gives the face both solidity and fragility. The surrounding field presses closely around the figure, transforming the background into an active space.

The title suggests a movement beyond what is visible, beyond the surface of the image, toward an interior dimension. As in much of Geraci’s work, the slow, repetitive process of engraving becomes a meditation on time, perception, and the search for what lies beyond reach.
