Blue floods the surface, a tree rises at the centre, its edges dissolving into the air. A pale channel of water or of light curves through the undergrowth, catching the last brightness of the scene. A wide vertical band of warm yellow cuts through the scene, and beyond it a slender violet edge, as though the view were being seen past the frame of a window or a passing wall. 

Samantha Torrisi was born in Catania and lives and works on the slopes of Mount Etna, where the weather moves quickly and the land is often seen through haze or rain. She paints from that condition rather than against it, softening the horizon until distance becomes a feeling instead of a measure. Her landscapes are quiet, humid and green in a way Sicily is rarely imagined to be.
