In Die Träumerin (“The Dreamer”), the face emerges slowly from a dense field of engraved lines and tonal passages created through etching and aquatint on zinc. The surface is built through the accumulation of countless marks, forming a soft yet unstable ground from which the figure gradually appears, as if suspended within a dreamlike space.

The closed eyes and relaxed expression suggest a state of inward reflection, where the figure seems detached from the external world and absorbed in a private dimension. The subtle shifts between light and shadow dissolve the contours of the face, reinforcing the sense of something remembered rather than fully seen.

As in much of Simone Geraci’s work, the image is constructed through time and repetition. The slow, disciplined process allows the figure to emerge gradually, turning the act of engraving into a meditation on perception, memory, and the fragile boundary between presence and dream.
