In Der Traum (“The Dream”), the portrait emerges from a dense field of engraved lines, created through the slow and disciplined process of etching on zinc. Thousands of incisions build a tightly woven surface from which the figure gradually appears, as if surfacing from an interior space.

The title suggests a state of dreaming, or of being suspended within one’s own thoughts. The lowered gaze and still expression give the impression that the figure is turned inward, absorbed in a private and silent dimension. The subtle division of the composition reinforces this sense of distance, separating the figure from the surrounding field and creating the feeling of an inner landscape.

As in much of Simone Geraci’s work, the image is formed through repetition and duration. The accumulation of lines records the passage of time, transforming the act of engraving into a slow and meditative process where the figure exists between presence and memory, reality and dream.
