A face emerges in precise profile from a mass of raw stone, the smooth planes of the modeled gypsum giving way to the rough, fractured surface of rock. The contrast is immediate and quietly powerful: the refined clarity of a human likeness pressed against the unworked weight of the land.

Come Pietre Nel Paesaggio V is part of the artist's ongoing series that takes its title literally: like stones in the landscape, these figures belong to the earth they emerge from. Agnello works from life, modeling directly from a face before fusing the cast with stones found in the fields and hills of his native Racalmuto. The result is a portrait that is also a place, a figure inseparable from the terrain that surrounds and precedes it.

Giuseppe Agnello is a sculptor and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, known for his portrait bronzes of Leonardo Sciascia and Andrea Camilleri. His work engages with identity, memory, and the deep relationship between the human figure and the Sicilian landscape.
