Breathe II opens into fog. A wooded slope climbs toward a bank of cloud, dissolving the treeline as it descends. Torrisi builds the hillside from soft accumulations of yellow and deep green, with warmer notes of apricot and rust gathering along the right side where the season seems further along. A faint vertical veil of light falls across the right edge, in a frame caught and held rather than a scene observed directly. 

Samantha Torrisi is an atmospheric and contemplative painter whose work moves between landscape, memory, and human presence. Born in Catania in 1977 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts there, she lives and works on the slopes of Mount Etna, where the volcano's moods and the Sicilian horizon run through everything she makes. Her painting reclaims images gathered from photography, cinema, video, and personal footage, slowing a single frame until places and figures dissolve into rarefied air. Her faded palette and softened edges give even emptiness a quality of tenderness. She has exhibited widely in Italy and abroad.
