Marilina distills the Mediterranean horizon into its most essential gestures of line and color. A wash of deep ultramarine rises from the base of the paper, dissolving gradually into lighter tonalities before meeting the untouched white above. The result evokes both sea and sky. Subtle textures and fluid gradients invite the viewer into a contemplative silence, recalling the shifting light of the Sicilian coast.
Marilina Marchica (b. 1984, Agrigento, Italy) is a contemporary artist whose work explores the boundaries between landscape, memory, and abstraction. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, with studies at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Marchica transforms the objective view of natural spaces into quiet, poetic meditations on solitude, erosion, and resilience.
Her ongoing series Landscapes and Signs navigate the emotional and physical contours of terrain—hills, coastlines, ruins—rendered through subtle gestures, muted textures, and earthy materials such as oxide, silicone, and recycled plaster. Marchica’s compositions are both minimal and tactile, offering an intimate reading of place as palimpsest. Her pieces are part of private international collections and the permanent collection of the Fondazione FAM (Fabbriche Chiaramontane) in Agrigento. She lives and works in Agrigento.
